Just read an article about the energy use labels that’ll be affixed to TVs next year, like the ones you see on refrigerators and washing machines. A good idea, but a better idea is to put energy use labels on houses. Heating and cooling one’s home is the single biggest energy impact an American will make in his/her lifetime. Labels are on appliances so buyers can know what they’re getting – doesn’t it make even more sense to put a label or a number or at least some kind of information on a house – the biggest purchase the average person is likely to make – so that the home buyer can beware?
