Dear Ms. Green,
My family is going to be looking for a new house soon, and we’d love it to be as green as possible. Is there a place where we can learn about solar hot water, PV, green building, geothermal, and creating a nice, tight house like you’re always talking about?

Dear Searching,
You are in luck! Did you know that our Community College, specifically the Pittsboro branch, has one of the most extensive green building programs in the state? It’s true! Every year in October they put on an event, Celebrate Green Central, where they have workshops about green building, a green home tour, and
lots of vendors and builders and contractors all involved in making your house more green. This year, Celebrate Green Central will be the first weekend in October. The grand kick-off and hall of vendors will be Friday night, and the green home tour, free workshops, and a continuation of the vendors will start on Saturday at 9 a.m. Come on down! Ms. Green will be there, giving a class on weatherization and hanging out in the vendor hall. Mention that you read her column and she’ll give you some free electrical outlet insulators. (If you want to know what an ‘electrical outlet insulator’ is, you’ll have to come and visit her! Or Google it.
